On your first day in Tenerife, after landing on the island, you can pick up your rental car at the airport offices and start your vacation in the Canary Islands. For today, nothing better than arriving at your hotel in the north of the island, settling in your room and resting. You can also take the opportunity to discover the surroundings, take a walk through Puerto de la Cruz or relax in the pool of your hotel.
If you have never traveled to Tenerife, you cannot miss a visit to theEl Teide National Park. Our recommendation is that you go in the morning and take the cable car to see the views from above. Tenerife is an island with strong winds, so on some occasions, access to the cable car can be closed for safety reasons. Therefore, it is better to prioritize the visit to Teide and start your route by car around the island here, knowing that, if the weather conditions are not ideal, you can return another day during your vacation to enjoy this volcano and its amazing viewpoint. at 3,555 meters high from where you can see, if the weather allows it, four other Canary Islands: Gran Canaria, La Palma, El Hierro and La Gomera. Before the climb to Mount Teide, stop at Las Cañadas del Teide, ideal for hiking or taking some good photos in an environment that seems from another planet.
For the afternoon, after lunch, is a good time to visit Santa Cruz de Tenerife. If you have time, you can take advantage and stop at La Candelaria, since it is on the way. Once you arrive in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, start by touring its urban core, contemplating the exterior of the Auditorium, the work of the architect Calatrava, and strolling down Calle Castillo, the shopping street, to end with a dip in one of the best valued beaches in the area. island for its calm waters: the Playa de las Teresitas. The best ending to this day. Now it's time to go back to the hotel, relax by the pool and have a cocktail before dinner. Tenerife is to enjoy!
If you want to crown the highest peak in Spain and climb to the crater of Teide, you will have to do it on foot. It is the only option. To do this, you have to request a special permit at least three months before your trip. This permit is free and you have to request it on the National Park Reserves website. The reason for this requirement is to preserve the ecosystem and natural landscape by limiting visits to 200 people per day. The walk to the top is about 40-60 minutes. Children over 6 years old can also climb as long as they are accustomed to walking and hiking as there are some stretches with quite a slope.
Taking advantage of your stay in the north of Tenerife, the most cultural and historical area of the island, today is a good day to visit La Laguna and its historic center declared a World Heritage Site. Do not miss the cathedral and its bell tower, the La Laguna market, the Plaza del Adelantado, the Nava palace and the Santa Catalina de Siena monastery. If it's time to eat, stop at a guachinche (traditional Canarian food house) is undoubtedly the best option. You will find these house-shaped restaurants with good homemade food at a good price in the northern part of the island, the most tropical. They are not tourist places, so you can get to them with your rental car and live the most authentic experience.
In the afternoon, go to Puerto de la Cruz,>a city full of life, history, shops, bars and home to the famous Lago Martiánez, a complex of artificial lakes designed by Canarian architect César Manrique. The place is quite touristy but worth seeing. If you travel with children, it is a good option to soak in front of the sea but with the security of being in artificial lakes without tides or waves.
Aguachinche is a place where traditional Canarian food is served, although its main objective is to sell its own-produced wine, which is why they are not open all year. Legally, they are only allowed to open during the wine harvest, from November until the wine runs out and they reopen in April.
The guachinches are not typical restaurants, with nice decoration and sea views. In fact, if you see one like this, you are not in an authentic guachinche so... run away! A guachinche is the most homemade thing you can find in Tenerife, so they can be installed in garages, living rooms or patios of private homes and the tables and chairs can be of all shapes and colors. Of course, do not be fooled by appearances, the guachinches are the most lively eating houses that have really traditional dishes and at very cheap prices. Without a doubt, the most authentic experience you can live in Tenerife. But beware! These food houses are not found everywhere, only in the north of the island, especially in Tacoronte, La Orotava, Los Realejos and El Sauzal. You will know that you are in an authentic guachinche if there is a handwritten sign at the entrance that says "guachinche", if there is no written menu or letter - at most you will only see a blackboard with some written dishes and four or five options to choose from - and everyone has wine at their table. In the north of the island there are 60 guachinches, in the south, none and fewer in Costa Adeje or Playa de las Américas. Don't let them fool you!
Typical dishes that are cooked in guachinches: fiesta meat (pieces of marinated pork), meat goat, ribs with potatoes, rabbit salmorejo, wrinkled potatoes with mojo sauce and stew.
Although there are several options, near the Plaza del Adelantado there is a large paying car park: the Las Quinteras car park. It is a guarded outdoor car park with a really cheap price so, if you can't find a place, you will avoid wasting time going around to park.
The Parque Rural de Anaga is an impressive place, a magical fairytale forest where you can enjoy nature, fresh air and tranquility. Located north of Tenerife, from there you can carry out different trails of more and less distance. If you go with little time or you don't feel like walking much, the Path of the Senses, is the best choice. Little more than 1 km of laurel forest of an intense green color that will fascinate you. Another recommended option is the Camino viejo al Pico del Inglés. But the best thing is that, before arriving, you look for your ideal path according to your preferences. In the visitor center they will show you a brochure with recommendations and routes.
Once you finish your walk through the forest, go to the Roque de Las Bodegas, the beach of the Anaga Rural Park. This beach is wild and natural, with black sand and without deckchairs, umbrellas or other amenities, which makes it an idyllic and quiet place but where it is not advisable to go too far into the sea due to its tidal changes and strong waves. If you are looking for a place to eat, on the road that borders this beach, you will find some restaurants.
To end the day, nothing better than enjoying a magnificent sunset at the Punta del Hidalgo Lighthouse, a most peculiar and modern lighthouse that contrasts with a natural landscape and one of the most special sunsets in Tenerife.
The main accesses are via the TF-12 highway via Las Mercedes, from La Laguna, and via San Andrés, also via the TF-12 highway, from Santa Cruz.

Starting today, you will explore the southernmost part of the island, famous for its beaches and higher temperatures. To do this, it is best to change your hotel and take advantage of these last few days to relax in a resort by the beach before finishing your vacation, although, if you prefer, you can stay in your hotel in the north. You just have to choose the option you prefer.
Today's first stop, on the way to your new hotel in the south, will be Icod de los Vinosa beautiful A municipality located in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, famous for housing the Millennium Drago, a tree that is believed to be around a thousand years old and is a symbol of the island. In addition to the Ancient Drago, Icod de los Vinos has a great wine culture - hence its name - and a historic center declared a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC). Among its places of interest you will find the church of San Marcos, the Plaza Andrés de Lorenzo Cáceres, the Cueva del viento, the Plaza de la Pila, the convent of San Francisco, the Emeterio Gutiérrez Albelo House-Museum, the church of San Agustín, the Casa de los Cáceres, the hermitage of San Antonio de Padua and the hermitage of Las Angustias. If you are looking for a place to eat, in Icod de los Vinos you can sit down in one of its restaurants and guachinches where you can taste homemade Canarian food.
In the afternoon, very close to Icod, a 15-minute drive car, you will arrive at Garachico and its natural pools, El Caletón. Here you can take a bath or simply enjoy the fantastic views of the sea and the castle of San Miguel.
The Millennium Dragon Tree is a huge specimen of Dracaena Draco, a woody herbaceous plant declared a National Monument in 1917. The reason for its fame is that this Drago Milenario is the largest and longest-lived dragon tree known in the world. It measures about 18 meters high and has a cup diameter of approximately 20 meters. His age is not known exactly but it is estimated that he could be between 700 and 900 years old. A true jewel and symbol of Icod de los Vinos that you cannot miss on your car route through Tenerife.

The first visit in the south of Tenerife will be Puerto Santiago where Los Gigantes and the Teneo Cliffs are located. . Although you can see them from land, if you want to get the best views of the whole, our recommendation is that you take a boat trip to see Los Gigantes from the sea, but we leave that to you and your free choice. After the cliffs, from Puerto de Santiago, if you go towards Las Galletas, you will pass by the beaches of Guía de Isora, Costa Adeje, Playa de las Américas and Playa de los Cristianos. You can go through all of them by car or decide on one of them (or several) to spend the rest of the day enjoying the sun, the sand and the beach. If you don't know where to choose, the most popular beaches in the south are La Enramada, El Duque and Fañabé, in Costa Adeje, and Playa de las Américas and Los Cristianos. Some very close to each other. In one of these areas is where you will have your perfect beach hotel to unwind after a great day touring the south of the island.
For this last day we propose several options depending on the time you have before catching your flight. One of them is to stay and enjoy your hotel and relax in the pool; another is to enjoy one of the beaches in the south or, on the way to the airport, stop at the Arco de Tajao and the Arbona Lighthouse . Whichever option you choose, keep in mind that it is advisable to be at the airport 2 hours before as you have to return the rental car and go through the security control where, in high season, the waiting time can be longer.
Before leaving your hotel, make sure to check the airport where your flight departs from on your ticket, as there are two airports on the island: Tenerife South Airport, known as Reina Sofía, and Tenerife North Airport ( The Rodeos). They are located at different points in Tenerife, so it is important not to get confused if we do not want to arrive late or miss the flight.
