Travel guide of Car route through Tenerife in 5 days

Day 1:

Arrival in Tenerife. The Lagoon, Puerto de la Cruz and Lago Martiánez

On your first day in Tenerife, after landing on the island, you can pick up your rental car at the airport offices and start your vacation in the Canary Islands. If you have time today, depending on the time of arrival on the island, you can take the opportunity to visit La Laguna or Puerto de la Cruz. These cities have a lot of charm, history and culture as well as a wide range of leisure activities, shops and restaurants. If you land at Tenerife North airport, take the opportunity to go to La Laguna, just 6 minutes by car from the airport. La Laguna, is a city with an exciting historic center declared a World Heritage Site and is considered by many to be the most beautiful city in Tenerife. If you go, don't miss its cathedral, the municipal market, Casa Salazar or Plaza del Adelantado. If you have time you can also visit Puerto de la Cruz, about 30 minutes from the airport and 20 minutes from La Laguna. If your hotel is in the north of the island, you will have it easy. Here is the Lago Martiánez, a complex of artificial lakes designed by the Canarian architect, César Manrique. These lakes are located in front of the sea and on a pedestrian street full of shops, bars and hotels, which is why it is quite lively. If on this first day of arrival you don't have time to visit these cities, don't worry, you will surely find a moment in the next few days since both La Laguna and Puerto de la Cruz are on their way to reach most places. of interest.

Day 2:

El Teide National Park, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Teresitas beach

If you have never traveled to Tenerife, you cannot miss a visit to theEl Teide National Park. Our recommendation is that you go in the morning and take the cable car to see the views from above. Tenerife is an island with strong winds, so on some occasions, access to the cable car can be closed for safety reasons. Therefore, it is better to prioritize the visit to Teide and start your route by car around the island here, knowing that, if the weather conditions are not ideal, you can return another day during your vacation to enjoy this volcano and its amazing viewpoint. at 3,555 meters high from where you can see, if the weather allows it, four other Canary Islands: Gran Canaria, La Palma, El Hierro and La Gomera. Before the climb to Mount Teide, stop at Las Cañadas del Teide, ideal for hiking or taking some good photos in an environment that seems from another planet.

For the afternoon, after lunch, is a good time to visit Santa Cruz de Tenerife. If you have time, you can take advantage and stop at La Candelaria, since it is on the way. Once you arrive in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, start by touring its urban core, contemplating the exterior of the Auditorium, the work of the architect Calatrava, and strolling down Calle Castillo, the shopping street, to end with a dip in one of the best valued beaches in the area. island for its calm waters: the Playa de las Teresitas. The best ending to this day. Now it's time to go back to the hotel, relax by the pool and have a cocktail before dinner. Tenerife is to enjoy!

Day 3:

Icod de los Vinos, the Ancient Drago and Garachico

Today's first stop will be Icod de los Vinos, a beautiful municipality located in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, famous for hosting the Millennium Dragon Tree, a tree that is believed to be around a thousand years old and that is a symbol of the island. In addition to the Ancient Drago, Icod de los Vinos has a great wine culture - hence its name - and a historic center declared a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC). Among its places of interest you will find the church of San Marcos, the Plaza Andrés de Lorenzo Cáceres, the Cueva del viento, the Plaza de la Pila, the convent of San Francisco, the Emeterio Gutiérrez Albelo House-Museum, the church of San Agustín, the Casa de los Cáceres, the hermitage of San Antonio de Padua and the hermitage of Las Angustias. If you are looking for a place to eat, in Icod de los Vinos you can sit down in one of its restaurants and guachinches where you can taste homemade Canarian food.

In the afternoon, very close to Icod, a 15-minute drive car, you will arrive at Garachico and its natural pools, El Caletón. Here you can take a bath or simply enjoy the fantastic views of the sea and the castle of San Miguel.

Day 4:

Cliffs of Los Gigantes and Costa Adeje

The first visit in the south of Tenerife will be Puerto Santiago where Los Gigantes and the Teneo Cliffs are located. Although you can see them from land, if you want to get the best views of the whole, our recommendation is that you take a boat trip to see Los Gigantes from the sea, but we leave that to you and your free choice. After the cliffs, from Puerto de Santiago, if you go towards Las Galletas, you will pass the beaches of Guía de Isora, Costa Adeje, Playa de las Américas and Playa de los Cristianos. You can visit them all by car or decide on one of them (or several) to spend the rest of the day enjoying the sun, the sand and the beach. If you don't know where to choose, the most popular beaches in the south are La Enramada, El Duque and Fañabé, in Costa Adeje, and Playa de las Américas and Los Cristianos. Some very close to each other. It is in one of these areas where you will have your perfect beach hotel to unwind after a great day touring the south of the island.

Day 5:

Farewell to Tenerife and return home

For this last day we propose several options depending on the time you have before catching your flight. One of them is to stay and enjoy your hotel and relax in the pool; Another is to enjoy one of the southern beaches or, on the way to the airport, stop at the Arco de Tajao and the Arbona Lighthouse . Whichever option you choose, keep in mind that it is advisable to be at the airport 2 hours before as you have to return the rental car and go through the security control where, in high season, the waiting time can be longer.

Practical tips

Airports in Tenerife

Before leaving your hotel, make sure to check the airport where your flight departs from on your ticket, as there are two airports on the island: Tenerife South Airport, known as Reina Sofía, and Tenerife North Airport ( The Rodeos). They are located at different points in Tenerife, so it is important not to get confused if we do not want to arrive late or miss the flight.
